Community Services - Helpline

Stansted Helpline was launched by the then Stansted Association of Christian Churches in order to offer practical assistance to those Stansted residents who may have no friends or relatives nearby who are able to help.

Helpline is able to offer, for example; transport, companionship, shopping, collecting prescriptions etc. and are able to provide information, advice and contact numbers for other organisations.

The service can be contacted 9am-4pm Monday to Friday by telephoning :-

07704 553727

This is a mobile telephone held by one of ten volunteers, on a rota basis, who log the requests.  A comprehensive list of approximately 60 volunteers, is then consulted to select a suitable volunteer to whom the ‘client’ is put in touch.

Over the years the requests for help have been many, varied and sometimes challenging and it is very rare indeed that Helpline is unable to assist.  Requests for transport outnumber by far other needs and more volunteers are always welcome for this. Volunteers to join the wider band of helpers are also welcomed.

Helpline depends entirely on the willingness of the volunteers both to take the requests and, more importantly, to implement them.  Meeting the costs of the service, has been possible only by the generosity of gifts from the many village organisations.
