May 12th

AT last the mill is back in the hands of the village.  Ken, the architect, was at the mill today along with Paul and Giles from IJP who together agreed that the job was done, but of course it doesn't end there.  For the Stansted Millers the next project is to try and get the sails to turn more readily by installing a few more shutters and the plasterwork on the ground floor urgently needs preserving somehow to protect the 'tivor' sketches made by past millers.

The groundwork will be completed in the next couple of weeks and BT...  well if BT answer the phone...  will make good the cables they diverted at the beginning of the project.

The mill will be open to the public on the 30/31st May bank holiday weekend and again on Saturday 19th June from 3pm.

Paul explains to Giles and Alan how a small block of wood on one of the shafts helps keep the brake away from the brake wheel.

The 'knuckle', as Paul calls it, just needs a liitle padding so that the brake lifts free when released.

Ken is happy that the works are completed.
