Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council

Windmill Restoration Archive - To December 17th

A well attended site meeting on 17th December...

Malcolm Starr, English Heritage Historic Building Architect, visited to check on progress first hand and discuss some conservation issues with the project architects and millwrights.  In fact most of those involved with the restoration were present today.

Millwrights Paul sellwood, 'Snod', Graham Robinson and Vincent Pargeter in the Mill cap floor.

The curb was discussed at great length today. The cogs, the track and supporting the curb were all on the agenda. The length of timber you see across the top of the mill was used to check how level the curb sat.

Vincent Pargeter examines the curb.

Architects Ken Mark, Malcolm Starr and Gerald Barrett

Millwrights to the right and Architects to the left as the meeting moves to the ground floor to discuss the mortar and wall sketches.

The sketches on the ground floor walls will be left alone for now with the wall tidied up but not decorated. Their future can be looked into when the restoration is over.

Alan Williams, treasurer of the Stansted Millers, is interviewed by the BBC.
