Windmill Restoration Archive - January 18th

 18th January

The cold 'snap' and holidays have slowed things down a bit over the last two or three weeks.  It has been too cold to paint or repoint but now it can begin.  All the cogs have been removed from the curb though, as has the iron track, and now it has to be levelled.

Freezing conditions over the last couple of weeks have meant that the repointing has only just got under way.

About 25% of the facing needs repairing

The window frames are stripped ready to repaint.

To level the curb - which is vitally important if the cap is to turn properly, it needs to be raised slightly.

A crowbar, some wedges and a mallet do the job.

But modern technology in the form of a laser level helps too!
