Windmill Restoration Archive - 27th January 2010

Millwrights were at the mill again today to discuss the future of the curb with architect Ken Mark ahead of a site meeting on the 28th.

Michael Hoyle was the Essex Millwright before Graham Robinson and now acts as an advisor and has come along today in that capacity as Graham couldn't make it.

Ken Mark and millwrights discuss the curb.

One of the 'legs' is exposed, but how far down does it go?

Giles removes some more brickwork to see the extent of the legs.

Vincent Pargeter, the original Essex Millwright, hasn't seen a curb with legs before so carefully measures it for his records.

The Worm The worm, which engages the cogs as the cap turns, was installed in the 80's replacing the original.  But it has never been used and was not installed properly so needs a little work before the cap goes back.

One of the centering wheels from the cap and in the background the steel plate made to support the worm.

...And inside the mill - a door gets a coat of paint.
