March 17th

Some of the bird protection that will be fitted to the cap is now in place and, with the worm now fixed in place, the fan could be tested to see if it really did turn the cap.  It did!

The worm is fixed in mesh with the cogs.

The lightning conducter has been fixed and the brushes you see here are part of the bird protection.

Giles turns the fan by hand to see how well it turns the cap.

March 19th

The wind turns the fan for the first time in a hundred years as it's allowed to run free.  The lower part of the fan stage is fitted.

The wind turns the fan, which turns the worm, which turns the cap...

The lower fan stage.

The petticoat is ready to be refitted.

These are the 'tyres' from the centering wheels. As the curb is slightly smaller than it was, these aren't needed.

The stocks are waiting.
