Important roadworks information

Dear Sir/Madam

M11 junction 8 Birchanger Roundabout: lighting renewal

We plan to complete this work over fifteen weeks from Monday 14 December to Thursday 15 April, working between the hours of 8pm and 6am on weeknights, subject to weather conditions.

We will be stopping all works on our network for the Christmas period from Friday 18 December to Monday 4 January, works will continue after this period.

The majority of this work will be carried out under lane closures however, full carriageway closures will be required for a few shifts to complete this work. Due to the extensive amount of work taking place, we have split the carriageway closures into five phases. Details of each phase are listed below:

Diversion routes

From Monday 14 December to Thursday 15 of April, we will be carrying out works on Birchanger Roundabout which will require lane closures and temporary traffic lights. We will not be completely closing the roundabout so traffic will be able to travel through here however, please expect some disruption.

Phase 1: M11 junction 8 Birchanger Roundabout, southbound exit slip closure on Friday 5 February (one night)

Southbound traffic will continue on the M11 to junction 7 to turn around and exit the M11 using the junction 8 northbound exit slip road (Diagram 1)

Phase 2: M11 junction 8 Birchanger Roundabout, southbound entry slip closure on Friday 19 February (one night)

Traffic will be diverted onto the A120 to join the M11 southbound from Priory Wood Roundabout (Diagram 2)

Phase 3: M11 junction 8 Birchanger Roundabout, northbound exit slip closure on Monday 22 February (one night)

Traffic will be diverted off the M11 onto the A120 at Priory Wood Roundabout to join Birchanger Roundabout to continue their journey (Diagram 2)

Phase 4: M11 junction 8 Birchanger Roundabout, northbound entry slip closure on Friday 5 March (one night)

Traffic will be diverted on the M11 southbound to junction 7 to turn around and join the M11 northbound (Diagram 1)

Phase 5: M11 junction 8 in both directions, on Monday 15 March and Thursday 18 March (two nights)

Traffic will be diverted off the M11 via the junction 8 exit slip roads to travel over Birchanger Roundabout and re-join the M11 from the entry slip roads, in both directions. (Diagram 3)

We will also be carrying out further resurfacing in the area in the new year and will notify you of these works in due course.
