Businesses are encouraged to hurry to apply for financial support to help cope with the move into higher tiers as a result of the pandemic. Funding is available under three council-backed schemes, some of which will be awarded on a ‘first come-first served’ basis till funds are exhausted.

  • Firms can apply for grants ranging from £500 to £1500 under the Essex Business Adaptation Fund. The eligibility criteria to access the scheme has been updated, and applications can now be made by businesses who do not have fixed property costs. Money will be awarded in order of receipt and any not utilised under the scheme will be returned to Essex County Council. The application window shuts at 5pm on Thursday 14, January.
  • In addition, ‘wet-led’ pubs forced to shut over the festive period can claim a £1000 one-off payment from the Christmas Support Payment scheme.
  • Meanwhile businesses in the Uttlesford area impacted by Tier 2 and Tier 4 restrictions can apply for a Local Restrictions Grant.
